Review: Scorched

Scorched Scorched by May Sage
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really love dragon-shifters...which is the main reason I sought out this anthology. Dragons are so regal and powerful, I've been quite obsessed with fantasy books that focus on their breed for quite a while now.

The first entry I flipped to was Saberthorn, because it was written by one of my favorite authors, Sheri-Lynn Marean. I love the fantastic ways she can set up entire worlds filled with shifters with greatly detailed back stories...and this tale of Saber and Tirah is full of heart rendering backstory involving both parties, a fair amount of adventure and a bit of danger here and there along the way, and ends with an unbeatable love story.

I do plan to read the other books in this set asap, but unfortunately life sometimes has to come first. I may update this review once I get other stories in this set read, but I expect they will all be wonderful to read as well. If you consider yourself a fan of dragon-shifters, definitely pick up this anthology, and get ready to sit back and enjoy doing a lot of reading.

Review: Saving Brad

Saving Brad Saving Brad by Siobhan Davis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I can't believe I finished this book several days ago and never got around to posting my review. This book includes two individuals with their own sets of issues. Both have had to deal with a lot of heartache and hurt in the past, in one way or another, and have worked to get past it by taking the whole world on their shoulders.

When I first started reading this series, my heart went out to Brad...he was the best friend that just couldn't get the girl (ie. Faye). In this book he makes a hard comeback when he finally lets go of his fantasy world and grabs onto a girl that truly needs his support, Faye's best friend, Rachel.

Your heart will break along with the characters as they discuss past events, and feel heated with all the 'distractions' they make for themselves along the way. There is a bit of mystery, danger, thrill, sexy times and humor along the way...as well as the hard devotion of the Kennedy clan when they get together to protect those they consider dear. This is a book you will not want to put down.

Review: Half-Blood Dragon

Half-Blood Dragon Half-Blood Dragon by K.N. Lee
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed reading this book. I was able to borrow the three book set from amazon with my Prime account, and am sharing my honest opinion here.

I found myself a little confused from the start of this story. I felt that the author may have not spent as much time as she needed to fully developing the story and world from the start. Not long after though, when the story mainly focuses on Rowen's POV, things start to clear up quickly.

She is accused of doing the unthinkable, and made to suffer for it. Many new elements come to light, including run-ins with pirates, mermaids and dragons. I would recommend this book for fans of fantasy genre, especially those that love reading books about dragons and/or are fans of the pirating trade.

Saving BradSaving Brad (The Kennedy Boys #5)
By Siobhan Davis
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age category: New Adult
Release Date: October 2017

Blurb:
An enemies-to-lovers romance from USA Today bestselling author Siobhan Davis. Standalone with an HEA and no cliff-hanger.

Brad
I’m in love with my best friend’s girl.
She knows it. He knows it. Everyone knows it.
Faye will never be mine, but try telling that to my stupid heart.
An endless rotation of girls streams in and out of my bedroom in a desperate attempt to forget her, but nothing eases the horrid ache in my chest. Rejection isn’t anything new for me, but it hasn’t gotten any easier.
Until she reappears in my life. Like an out-of-control tornado. Storming in, all fierce and angry, ready to steamroll everything in her path. Rachel is trouble with a capital T bundled in a gorgeous, sexy, Irish package.
She pushes all the wrong buttons, and I can’t decide if I want to yell at her or kiss her.
I should steer clear.
But I’ve never been very good at taking my own advice. Especially when it comes to girls I can’t have and shouldn’t want.

Rachel
I need to escape.
To put as much distance between me and that monster so I can start living my life.
Yet, even the vast Atlantic Ocean isn’t enough to sever the connection. To allow me to forget how he’s ruined me. His hold is more than just physical. He has a vise-grip on my head and my heart, and I can’t breathe, can’t think, can’t function.
So, I do everything to blot it out.
Until he reappears in my life.
Brad McConaughey. So hot. So infuriating. So in love with my best friend.
Every word out of Brad’s mouth makes me want to throat punch him or kick him in the nuts.
But he makes me feel, and I hate him for it. A part of me might actually love him for it.
I should keep my distance, but like destructive magnets, we are drawn together.
This isn’t going to end well.
I know it. He knows it.
But we’re powerless to resist.

Excerpt:
That guy is such an asshole. He’s the only potential blimp in this otherwise stellar plan of mine. I honestly can’t fathom how Kyler has been best friends with Brad since kindergarten. How they’re practically like brothers, according to Faye. Brad has a major chip on his shoulder, and he doesn’t seem to care who knows it. Well, I came here to get away from that kind of shite and no one is going to drag me back to the gutter. Not even a guy as fit as Brad.
The guys are leading the charge in front of us, giving me ample opportunity to ogle the asshole without his knowledge. My eyes drop from his broad shoulders and muscular back—which flexes and rolls under his clingy shirt as he moves—to his shapely ass, and I have to fight the urge to jump him from behind. There is no denying how utterly gorgeous Brad McConaughey is. With his cropped blond hair, stunning blue eyes framed by lashes that should be illegal on a guy, and the chiseled lines of his tanned face, Brad is temptation on a stick. He has that all-American golden boy good looks I used to swoon over when I was younger. He’s like the US equivalent of Niall Horan, albeit a moodier, crankier version. Not that I know Niall Horan personally or anything, but he always comes across as a total sweetheart. Looks, talent, humor, intelligence, and a good heart. A winning combination if ever there was one. Although, I’m kind of protective over our homegrown talent, so I might be biased.
Faye digs her elbows in my ribs, breaking through my inner Niall swooning. “Were you even listening to me?”
“Nope.” I grin at her, linking my arm more firmly through hers. “I was just daydreaming about Niall Horan.”
“Random dot com.”
I snort. “I was thinking that Brad could be like the US Niall Horan if he wasn’t such an ass.”
Quick as a flash, Brad spins around, eyeballing me with a smirk. “You think I look like Niall Horan? All the ladies love Niall, or so I’ve been told.”
“And your point is?”
We come to a standstill in front of Kyler’s car.
“The ladies love me too, Red. And I think you have an inkling why.”
He winks, and it’s so wrong.
All of it.
The sleazy comment, the sly reminder that he’s been inside me, and the shady wink. I often get a sense with Brad that he’s playing a part. A role he’s not entirely comfortable with, which is why he can’t pull it off most of the time.

Elementals: a Limited Edition Urban Fantasy Collection Elementals: a Limited Edition Urban Fantasy Collection by Lindsey R. Loucks
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This review is based on the included edition Fractured Elements by Jen L. Grey. I received a copy of this story and am sharing an honest review here.

I really loved this story, and was roped in the instant I started it. It includes magical elements in a high school setting, and it's a serious page turner. This was a sincerely enjoyable story, and if the other books in this set are similar, I definitely need to check the rest of this collection out!

Review: Brothers of Fang: The New Alpha

Brothers of Fang: The New Alpha Brothers of Fang: The New Alpha by Iris Sweetwater
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. I did receive a copy from the author, but wanted to share my honest opinion here. That being said...this story had an easy flow to it, compared to me just picking up book 2 and reading it first. I strongly recommend you read the books in The Brothers of Fang series in order, just to prevent you from thinking you must have lost something along the way.

That being said...Isaiah finds himself in a position he's not positive he's ready for, even though he's been preparing for it most of his life. With his father's passing, he is now the new alpha. He expects to run things different, but it turns out to be a lot harder to gain the respect of the pack than he first expected. Add a witch that has been attacked by a werewolf, a female friend that the whole family has grown up with, a coven of witches that is out for blood...and you've got an interesting story that is easy to follow.

I will admit though I was not too pleased with the ending...this story just drops off, and if you don't already have access to book 2, then you may feel this is an unsatisfying ending as well. I'd recommend this book for anyone that enjoys supernatural stories with werewolves. Witches are included in this story too, though they are really only mentioned secondarily in the scheme of things.

Review: Hood

Hood Hood by Evan Pickering
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Ok, I received the audiobook version of this book and figured it would be a quick read. Not so much. I found it hard to enter the world created in this book, and even harder to understand exactly where the characters were coming from, much less realize what was going on for the most part. I am honestly writing this review to have this book removed from my current reading list...

I received this book quite some time ago, started it, stopped...returned to it, stopped again...I just couldn't latch onto what was going on in this book. That being said, you should keep in mind the fact that fantasy and mystery are usually the books I read most often, so even though I usually enjoy most dystopian books, this one was not for me.

That being said...if you are a fan of rather realistic dystopian type novels with a military edge/flavor, then you will probably enjoy reading this book. As you can see, I still haven't been able to finish it. It took me months to get halfway through it, and I'm still not sure I can finish it at this point. Only time will tell. Just expect the characters in this book to have a very 'real' flavor, and the full range of language and profanity that goes along with that in a time of crisis.

Review: The Exodus

The Exodus The Exodus by Ali Winters
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Review: Ruin of the Gods

Ruin of the Gods Ruin of the Gods by Erin Hayes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I'll admit that when I first got started reading this book, I realized a few pages in (and with mild levels of slight confusion)...that this is the third book in a series, not the first. However, after getting through the first chapter, I was pleased to find I could pick up most of what was going on, and I felt right at home with Tisiphone...what with her bad-arsery and snarky attitude.

This book is packed with action, humor and a little light romance...and I found it an enjoyable experience since it ties so many elements from the real world in directly in with Greek Mythology. I was able to adjust adequately and read this as a standalone, but if you are curious about delving into this series, I would recommend you seek out the first book in this set and start from there. I received this book as an early release and wanted to share my honest opinion here after reading it.

Review: Craving Security: Trained To Defend & Built To Kill

Craving Security: Trained To Defend & Built To Kill Craving Security: Trained To Defend & Built To Kill by A. Gorman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I am basing this review of this box set on the story Signed, Danger by the author Marissa Farrar.

I enjoyed reading this story in the set, and I loved how easy it was to fall into step with the characters in it. From the traveling author that is a little out of her comfort zone, to the well built blast from her past that ends up working as her security...it's a bit thrilling and a little frightening in parts, but all with a bit of wondering and romance mixed in as well. I look forward to reading more stories in this collection soon.

Review: Teaching Tori

Teaching Tori Teaching Tori by Annie Rehmann
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Romance FTW!

I really enjoyed reading this book. Once I started, I ended up staying up all night reading it. Tori is a teacher that has been through past romantic turmoil. She meets a man who could change everything, and it ends up making all the difference. If you are not interested in relationships and self doubt, and even finding love after facing great danger, then this book may not be ideal for you. I can't wait to get started on book 2 (after a short nap, of course)!

Review: Teaching Tom

Teaching Tom Teaching Tom by Annie Rehmann
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this story. I loved the setting is based primarily in New Zealand (with the exception of a little bit of traveling Tori takes on later in the story), and the fact that the scenery in this book is just beautiful. It's a romance low on explicit details, but packed with mutual misconception on both sides of the relationship. The title may be 'Teaching Tom', but I really think both Tom and Tori had a lot of learn, both about themselves and about what makes a relationship work when all cards are on the table.

I felt like the relationship between these two was well represented, and proof that even though the hard time, love can prevail when given free reign. I would recommend this book for fans of romance in the real world, and those who might want to explore hardships that try to get in the way of love. I won't give out more info (I really do dislike spoilers), but this is definitely an enjoyable book that will cause you to deal with your own feelings along the way.

Review: Teeth of the Gods

Teeth of the Gods Teeth of the Gods by Sarah K.L. Wilson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Overall, I enjoyed reading this book. That being said, be prepared to get introduced to a whole new world with a new cast of character fairly early on. I found it a little hard to keep up with in the beginning, but found I was able to fall into step fairly soon after as I continued reading the book.

The author presents a set of characters with unique personalities and gifts, and while there were parts I found a little frustrating when dealing with the primary protagonist (Tylira), I did end up enjoying the story overall. This is a fantasy set in an area outside of the U.S., but because the settings are so well thought out and aptly described, I feel it's easy to immerse yourself into this world with only a minimal effort on your part.

Review: Ghosted

Ghosted Ghosted by Kristine Schwartz
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book! It begins with a rather horrendous event...then gives the reader a completely new take on the afterlife. When Blaire discovers this new world, along with the eventual information that she's been a part of a group in a previous point and time...questions start stacking.

I'm so glad I decided to check out this book...the characters definitely pop, and there is definitely plenty of action in this edition. I would recommend this book to fans of ghosts and the fantasy genre from a paranormal & supernatural standpoint. This book is also YA friendly, so feel free to delve in without holding back.

Dracones Awakening (Dragon Shifter, Clean Version for Any Age): Clean Version Dracones Awakening (Dragon Shifter, Clean Version for Any Age): Clean Version by Sheri-Lynn Marean
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. The flow of the story and cast of characters urged me to continue reading the book to the very end. I really enjoyed meeting all the characters in this book, and since I actually started reading Thaniel first when exploring this author's works, I was glad to see he was mentioned in this book as well.

There are a few parts that are a little slow in this book, but I think the flow is fairly decent throughout. I absolutely love Dragons, as well as other shifters, so I definitely plan to read more of this series soon. I would recommend this book for fans of paranormal romance, dragons and shifters.

The Highland Hero (Lairds of Dunkeld Series) The Highland Hero (Lairds of Dunkeld Series) by Emilia Ferguson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received an early copy of this ebook prior to publication date, and am sharing my honest opinion about this story here.

I really enjoyed reading this story, and loved how the scenery of this book captivated me. I felt the confusion Chrissie encounters when trying to decide between two potential love interests, as well as her fright when she ends up in a supremely precarious situation. This book includes many of the same characters that were written about in the first book in this set, and showcases the situation involving another lady of the court seeking her happy ending in love. I recommend this book and series to anyone that is a fan of historical romances and the Scottish highlands.

Review: Game of Faith

Game of Faith Game of Faith by R. Murray
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was able to read this book prior to publication date, and I really loved the characters and flow of the story. I have not read the first book in this series yet, so I dove into this book not being familiar with any of the situations of individuals included, but it didn't take me long to catch onto the story and enjoy the ride.

That being said, I would still strongly recommend that if you decide to begin this series, you start with book 1, as I feel it would have filled in a few blanks that picking this book up cold may have left behind in the reading experience. There is a wide assortment of fantastic creatures involved in this book, and I would highly recommend reading this series to anyone that is a fan of novels in the fantasy genre.

Review: A Million Shadows

A Million Shadows A Million Shadows by Cecilia Dominic
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading a copy of this book. It is a bit on the lighter side length wise, but full of sci-fi/fantasy quirks here and there. I loved how strong Kyra was, despite her 'ailment', and Jared is definitely worth a second look (if only hoping to snag a sideways glance or wink from him). I would recommend this book to fans of sci-fi/fantasy & werewolves, and expect a to get a little witch/wizard action mixed in with this story as well.

Review: Pure Dark Vol 3: The Nasty Third Helping!

Pure Dark Vol 3: The Nasty Third Helping! Pure Dark Vol 3: The Nasty Third Helping! by Andrew Mackay
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ok, I finished this book after reading the first two books in this set (vol 1 & 2), and found this one was much less sickening than the others for the most part. All the same, if you decide to pick up this series and read it for yourself, I still strongly recommend reading the set in order. Disregard the fact you will feel a bit confused and rather nauseated during sections of reading this entire set...just saying.

The first book was just outright nauseating...but still an interesting read, to say the least. The second book in this set is still supremely gross, though I found my stomach could handle reading that one much better. This book shares more snippets into what's really going on (Charlie Ferrari), both internally for the coma patient and externally for those around him. If you have a fairly strong stomach and think you're up for the challenge, I strongly recommend reading this series...it will be an experience like nothing you've delved into before, and by the end it will leave you saying OMCF! (Oh My Charlie Ferrari!)

Review: Safe Guard

Safe Guard Safe Guard by Amy Reece
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this novel. I was able to enjoy getting tangled in with the relationship of another DeLuca brother and his brother's partner on the force. There are lots of ups a downs, a sidecar ride-along mystery that is being investigated, and a few surprises along the way. No explicit scenes were written in this book...if anyone is romantically involved...it's just alluded to. I like how this author keeps it behind closed doors.

I really enjoyed reading this short story and intro for the Voodoo Dolls series. It's a light and enjoyable quick read about a group of girls that are in a start-up band and sell fudge and magical knick knacks in their shop. Magic doesn't exist...their elders reinforced that point, so why worry about a bit of harmless joking around here & there, right?

I really enjoyed reading this book. It's cute and quirky all the way through, and it's told from Ester's POV, an aerospace engineer that has never had much luck in the dating department and doesn't usually 'click' when it comes to social interactions. The writing in this book is really fun, and I would recommend reading it to anyone that is looking for a light and fun love story involving an introvert.
