Review: That Night

That Night That Night by Cecily Wolfe
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was well written, though a little hard to read. It focuses on heroin overdose, and how easy it is for ANYONE to fall into this trap, even if they only let their guard down for an instant. It also deals with how the drug users relationships were altered, and how her friends must work to survive this loss. I would recommend this book to anyone that is curious to find more information about growing up with loss, or anyone that is looking for a tool to relate the concept of the danger of drug overdose to a younger audience.

Review: The Highlander’s Awakening (Lairds of Dunkeld Series)

The Highlander’s Awakening (Lairds of Dunkeld Series) The Highlander’s Awakening (Lairds of Dunkeld Series) by Emilia Ferguson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I'm so glad I happened across this author. The Lairds of Dunkeld series contains romantic instances without all of the eroticism in a beautifully calming area that ropes me in with it's breathtaking scenery. This edition has been no exception, and I enjoyed reading this novel as much as the others in this series thus far. I would recommend this book to readers that are looking for romance without erotic oversharing, or those that are seeking out books written about a couple in the Scottish Highlands.

Review: Call of the wolf

Call of the wolf Call of the wolf by R. Murray
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give this book 4.5 stars. This is the first book I've read by this author, but I really enjoyed how detailed the characters were in this novel. It has plenty of action and includes werewolves, vampires and witches. I found I was able to easily fall in sync with the characters (it's told from multiple POVs), and I felt it really helped me to grasp onto the heart of this story line. I am looking forward to reading additional books in this trilogy, and I'd recommend this read to fan of fantasy and a family divided (good witch/bad witch).

Review: Accidental Witch

Accidental Witch Accidental Witch by Lydia Sherrer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. This novel is written from Sebastian's point of view as he is forced to deal with the loss of both his parents, and is thrust into a new living situation. Through a series of events he never saw coming, he discovers his family has roots in magic.

I found this book was a gripping read from beginning to finish, and I would recommend it to any readers that are fans of fantasy/magical tales. I look forward to reading the next book in this secondary series, and will probably invest myself in reading other books from this author while I wait for it's publication date to arrive.

Review: Dead Wrath

Dead Wrath Dead Wrath by T.G. Ayer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book as much as the first few in the Valkyrie series. All of them are well written and are saturated in a mesh of mythology and fantasy. I'd recommend reading these books in order, but I think just about any of them could be picked up and read as a standalone with only a few situational blanks left here or there. I'd recommend this book to any fantasy and mythology fans that are looking for a book that involves war.

Review: The Lost Savior

The Lost Savior The Lost Savior by Siobhan Davis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I enjoyed reading this book. It definitely has many sci-fi and fantasy elements, and is a book written about a teenager, but with a few new adult features (includes a little strong language and a few intimate encounters). Tori discovers many new things about herself in this novel, including the fact that she is 'not of this world' and also that she has pre-ordained bonds with her jaw-droppingly handsome protectors.

I did read about halfway through this ebook, then switched over to reading several others not long afterwards. I was glad to see I could easily return to this book weeks later and pick right up where I left off on this story without requiring a refresher of any type on the characters or story line. I would recommend this book to readers that are fans of sci-fi novels, or even YA novels with sci-fi elements. It is well written and I'll be on the lookout for book 2 in this series.

Review: Dead Chaos

Dead Chaos Dead Chaos by T.G. Ayer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. Bryn has many hard decisions to make in this novel, and I really fell for Joshua in this book. I would recommend this book for readers that enjoy fantasy that is strongly tied in with mythology and is written from a YA POV.

Review: Blood and Ashes: A Paranormal Romance Novel

Blood and Ashes: A Paranormal Romance Novel Blood and Ashes: A Paranormal Romance Novel by Marilyn Peake
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed reading this book. I felt I could relate to Kaelin and her family's financial hardship in this novel, and I enjoyed the whimsical (and sometimes dangerous) romps through a faerie realm as well. If you are a fan of book where fantasy meets the real world and includes a bit of hardship and romance along the way, then you will probably appreciate this book.

Review: Ancient Tides: Division 14: The Berkano Vampire Collection

Ancient Tides: Division 14: The Berkano Vampire Collection Ancient Tides: Division 14: The Berkano Vampire Collection by J.L. Weil
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. This is actually the first book I've read out of The Berkano Vampire collection thus far, and it definitely makes me want to check out others in this collection by different authors.

If you enjoy reading stories featuring a dystopian world where vampires and witches are present, you may want to check out this one. It's high on fantasy and tied in with family legacy, revenge plots, danger, potential scandal...and too much to really mention while avoid spoilers.

Review: The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry

The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Great true to life novel

I enjoyed reading this novel. It's definitely a change from my usual literary go-to choices of YA fantasy/sci-fi or mystery books. It's strongly rooted in the spirit and soul behind a localized bookstore, and those that devote their time and energy to see things keep running smoothly. Though I don't write many short stories myself, I have enjoyed reading many, and I really appreciated the way this book brought to the forefront the importance of being able to master the writing a short story. I would recommend this book to anyone that loves literature and feels it's important to remember how literature can truly change and shape lives.

Review: Let's Kill Mr Pond

Let's Kill Mr Pond Let's Kill Mr Pond by Andrew Mackay
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was an interesting read, to say the least. All the small elements that could potentially lead to a gruesome outcome (that's karma, am I right?) were well pointed on in this novel. Get ready to meet two somewhat innocent boys, and see how society around them excludes them and twists them into individuals ready to take on the task of dispensing of a teacher they both hate. I'd recommend this book to individuals that can handle a bit of gore (and get ready for plenty of fowl language, these are young boys, after all), and are curious to read more books that fixate on the the things that may be wrong with society.

Review: Magic Undying

Magic Undying Magic Undying by Linsey Hall
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I wasn't sure about how to take the fact that this book starts right in the middle of the action; or at least at the end of it...Del wakes up in Hell. After finishing the book though, I enjoyed the fact it contained so many fantasy elements, and I plan to read other books in this series, as well as the series that led to this spinoff set. I would recommend this book for fans of magic, fantasy & demons (both hot and not).

Review: Dead Embers

Dead Embers Dead Embers by T.G. Ayer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I definitely enjoyed reading this book. It's more solidly based in the world of norse mythology, and you get to experience several levels of growth and development as a fairly new valkyrie along with Bryn. This book is a roller coaster of assumed good intentions with treacherous endings. I'm just itching to read book 2, after the way this book ends. I'd recommend this book to fans of mythology and fantasy, and I'd highly recommend you read this series in order.

I absolutely loved this book! It's an Arthurian retelling that will not stop leaving you shocked. Just when I thought I had the scheme of things figure out...BAM...the author went and flipped the script. I can't wait to check out the next book in this series, because book 1 just blew me away! I'd recommend this book to anyone that is a fan of legend and tale retellings, and is willing to wade though quite a few unfortunate circumstance between characters to reach the deeper truths.

Review: Lights in the Night: Book One: The Ostinato Series

Lights in the Night: Book One: The Ostinato Series Lights in the Night: Book One: The Ostinato Series by Greg Alldredge
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. Since I currently live in Texas, I felt I could relate to Trevor's first impression of the state, even in a small town. I enjoyed the fact it was light hearted and made for a fun reading experience, despite the element of mystery that hung over the town he visited. I do feel that as the story developed, the obviousness of what was really going on kind of slapped me in the face as a reader...and the phrase 'beating a dead horse' came to mind repeatedly, but all in all it was an enjoyable story. I would recommend this book for fans of sci-fi and travel (from the U.K. to U.S.) with a bit of authenticity.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. This is the first book I've read so far from An Uncanny Kingdom, and I was pleased to find I liked this book as much as I liked the cover. The characters are well developed, and I really felt a connection for Abbey throughout the novel. This book is filled with action and twisted relationships with the supernatural. I would recommend this book to any readers that are fans of urban fantasy and kick-butt heroines.

Review: Chasing Mermaids

Chasing Mermaids Chasing Mermaids by Seven Steps
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. It's a young adult contemporary romance about a girl that has always loved swimming with Olympic dreams, that is being held back by her overprotective father. Since losing her mother, a layer of melancholy is always hovering over the family, and Ariel must find a way to branch out.

This book is an interesting retelling of The Little Mermaid, and if you don't pick up on that soon after you begin to read it, I would think the mentions of the song 'Kiss the Girl' in several parts should clue you in. I would recommend this read to anyone looking for a YA fairy tale retelling with a few fun twists along the way.

Review: Seer of Souls

Seer of Souls Seer of Souls by Susan Faw
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

While the premise behind this book ended up being quite interesting to me, despite the fact this book definitely started slow. I didn't find myself truly drawn into the words of the book until I was nearly halfway though it.

I did find that after reaching that point though...the story did sweep me away. I enjoyed the interactions between the characters and their environment, and I may even consider taking on book 2 in this series at some point as well.

I'd recommend this book to readers that are in search of a somewhat involved fantasy read, especially those written about twins with magical gifts they try to keep concealed.

Review: Enlightened Ascent

Enlightened Ascent Enlightened Ascent by Jen L. Grey
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. It's filled with intrigue and a bit of mystery, just enough to keep you turning the pages. I'll admit book 1 in The Pearson Prophecy had me roped in from page one, while this one took me a few chapters in to get my head wrapped around. All the same, you get introduced to a new set of characters, and I would recommend this book to anyone that is a fan of fantasy, royalty and romance. I do recommend you grab The Pearson Prophecy Book 1 (Dawning Ascent) before delving into book 2.

Inseparable by Siobhan Davis

...And Now for Something Completely Different...

A childhood promise. An unbreakable bond. One tragic event that shatters everything.

It all started with the boys next door…

Devin and Ayden were my best friends. We were practically joined at the hip since age two. When we were kids, we thought we were invincible, inseparable, that nothing or no one could come between us.

But we were wrong.

Everything turned to crap our senior year of high school.

Devin was turning into a clone of his deadbeat lowlife father—fighting, getting wasted, and screwing his way through every girl in town. I’d been hiding a secret crush on him for years. Afraid to tell him how I felt in case I ruined everything. So, I kept quiet and slowly watched him self-destruct with a constant ache in my heart.

Where Devin was all brooding darkness, Ayden was the shining light. Our star quarterback with the bright future whom everyone loved. But something wasn’t right. He was so guarded, and he wouldn’t let me in.

When Devin publicly shamed me, Ayden took my side, and our awesome-threesome bond was severed. The split was devastating. The heartbreak inevitable.

Ayden and I moved on with our lives, but the pain never lessened, and Devin was never far from our thoughts.

Until it all came to a head in college, and one eventful night changed everything.

Now, I’ve lost the two people who matter more to me than life itself. Nothing will ever be the same again.

A standalone new adult contemporary romance with a happy ending. Only suitable for readers aged eighteen and older due to mature content and possible triggers.

EXCERPT :

He starts hobbling toward the door. “I could never hate you, Ange.” Stopping in the doorway, he straightens up a little, grimacing as he removes his hands from his groin. “Never. You can hurl your hateful words at me. You can threaten me. You can scream and shout and push me all you like, but it won’t make the slightest bit of difference. I love you. I’ve always loved you, and I always will. And I’m going nowhere, baby doll.” His eyes glisten with resolve. “The only possible way you’ll get rid of me is if you kill me.”
And with those parting words, he walks out, slamming the door shut behind him as I sink to the floor in a flurry of tears. I wish I did hate Devin, because it would make this so much easier. But I love him to bits. As much as I always have. Maybe more so thanks to that declaration.
He can stay here and try to fight for me.
But he’s missed sight of the most important thing.
This isn’t about him winning back my heart. You can’t win something you already own, and my heart has always belonged to him.
But if he realized how blackened my heart is, how corrupt and mangled and twisted it’s become, he’d give it back. He’d throw it in my face and run a million miles away from here.
He’d stop fighting for the dead girl with the dead heart.

The first book I read out of this set was Dragon's Fate by Kris Austen Radcliffe, and the second book I read was First Kisses Suck by Ali Cross. While these two stories had their share of differences to offer, they both are stories that include fantastic creatures (dragons and vampires thus far). I would strongly recommend this set to anyone that enjoys fantasy stories, especially those where a bit of diversity is involved.
