Review: Dead Radiance

Dead Radiance Dead Radiance by T.G. Ayer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really loved reading this book. When Bryn discovers from an early age that she can see auras surrounding certain people...that all end up dying, it's a real puzzler. This is definitely a must read for fans of fantasy YA and mythology, and is packed with many classic teenage woes, the experience of growing up in assorted foster environments and a bit of mystery...and introduces a bit of unrealized recognition, discovery and a fantastic journey simultaneously. If you are a fan of any or all of these elements, get ready to get wrapped into this great book filled with interesting and intriguing characters along the way.

Review: Simple Machines

Simple Machines Simple Machines by Andrew Mackay
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed reading this book. Like many of the other books I've read by this author, the subject matter was quite disturbing. When a man devotes his life to manufacturing an ideal companion android, it is pointed out that we are all just simple machines.

Review: Somewhere Inside my Mind

Somewhere Inside my Mind Somewhere Inside my Mind by Stephany Wallace
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. When I first started reading it, I wasn't sure what to expect. This novel starts at an orphanage, and leads to an unexpected turn of events that heightens two selfless girls' artistic experiences in life. The world of art is introduced in more than one ways in this book, and the desire for the unity of family is expressed in many ways in this book as well.

This book is an emotional journey, and I look forward to reading the next book in this series to see what happens with these characters next. I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys books featuring well developed characters, and also isn't afraid to experience the emotional turmoil that surrounds the creative process. Get ready to experience love, hope, joy, pain, turbulence and selflessness when you get acquainted with these characters.

Review: Fluffy Bunny

Fluffy Bunny Fluffy Bunny by Sarah Buhrman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed reading this book. With this series, it's probably a good idea to start off reading the book before delving into th is one (ie. Too Wyrd). This book delves into magic and mythology, and it's easy to relate to the characters as the novel progresses. I would recommend this book (and series) to anyone that is a fan of fantasy and mythology.

Review: Angels in Our Lives

Angels in Our Lives Angels in Our Lives by Melissa Storm
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I enjoyed reading this short story. It's not quite long enough to really connect with the characters, but it's a very sweet story about the support and bond shared between pet and owner.

Review: Alexander: Monochrome Interview

Alexander: Monochrome Interview Alexander: Monochrome Interview by May Freighter
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. This is a book that falls in the Helena Hawthorn series by May Freighter, but if you haven't experienced any of the other books in this series, yet, I believe it could also be read as a standalone for the most part.

A vampire that has only really been in love once, a journalist that is just trying to do her job, and with many other supernatural creatures showing up here and there in between, this book lays out a steamy tale of affection between a human and adoration between the two. If you're a fan of paranormal reads with a bit of romance and danger combined, you may want to give this series a try.

Review: Keeper of Dragons: The Mere Treaty

Keeper of Dragons: The Mere Treaty Keeper of Dragons: The Mere Treaty by J.A. Culican
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved reading this book! I've been lucky enough to be able to keep up with this series as it has progressed, so if you get the chance, I'd strongly advise you to start with book 1 in this series and continue on. However, I think you may still be able to enjoy this book on it's own...but I promise you'll want to read earlier books in this series to catch up on how things have gotten to this point in the story.

This book involves the evil Eldrick proclaiming war on supernatural races, and Cole, Jericho, Eva, and Clara are able to align and take on this evil force and his band of equally evil accomplices. Culican's writing is amazing, and it ropes you right into the action and makes it easy for the reader to visualize each scene first hand. This is the third book in the Keeper of Dragons series, and though it doesn't have a final ending (the adventures continue!), it leaves the room to continue and build. I would recommend this book (and series) to readers that enjoy adventure to their reads, especially where supernatural beings are involved.

Review: MIND: The Vision

MIND: The Vision MIND: The Vision by Jenn Nixon
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is actually the second book I've read by this author. I started by reading the first book in this series, and I loved it. I realize I skipped a few books in between, but I felt I could easily adapt to the character adjustments in the MIND organization without any issues.

I enjoyed reading this story, and would recommend this book to anyone looking for a series that is thrilling with a bit of romance and power battles between characters.

Review: The Edinburgh Seer

The Edinburgh Seer The Edinburgh Seer by Alisha Klapheke
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed reading this book and being exposed to this literary world. It is an exciting book with many twists and turns, and I'm only giving it four stars instead of five because when I first started reading it, I found it a little difficult to get a grip on what was happening.

This story is basically about a seer, who has to keep her abilities under wraps due to the governmental order to do away with all sixth-sensers. I enjoyed the Scottish language used all through this book, and I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys an international experience where supernatural phenomena is heavily involved.

Review: Uncanny Valley

Uncanny Valley Uncanny Valley by C.A. Gray
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really loved reading this book! It's basically a dystopian novel where AI has run abundant in the everyday functioning of society. The characters in this novel are all well developed, and this story focuses primarily on a college student in Ireland. This book contains lots of sweet and protective moments between Rebecca and Liam; I now definitely consider Liam one of my newest 'book boyfriends'.

If you are interested in sci-fi themed dystopian books and romantic themes that are constantly questioned (should I? shouldn't I?), despite the encouragement of Rebecca's home AI and best friend Madeline, you should definitely check out this book. I can't wait to see where this story goes with the second book!

Review: Tide

Tide Tide by Deirdre Riordan Hall
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. I found myself drawn into the story soon after starting it. This story is strongly rooted somewhere between the area between surfers and mermaids, even though the book is set in the state of Maine. I enjoyed meeting the characters in this book, and I felt they all had a strong underlying connection. I can't wait to find out what happens in future books in this series. If you are a fan of books with aquatic themes, mermaids, surfing, or any combination of the three, I'd highly recommend you check out this book.

Review: MIND: The Beginning

MIND: The Beginning MIND: The Beginning by Jenn Nixon
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed reading this book. It is packed with a fair share of adventure, a bit of danger, a few steamy encounters and twin bonding. Humans, Aliens, Hybrids...plenty of good times ahead. Get ready to discover the birth of the Meta-alien Investigation and Neutralization Department (MIND) along with our MCs - Dina, Duncan and Liam. I recommend this book to readers that are looking for an action packed sci-fi experience with smoking sidepieces scattered throughout.

Review: Pure Dark Volumes 1 - 3: The Ultimate Horror Endurance Trilogy

Pure Dark Volumes 1 - 3: The Ultimate Horror Endurance Trilogy Pure Dark Volumes 1 - 3: The Ultimate Horror Endurance Trilogy by Andrew Mackay
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I am actually including reviews for each individual book included in this trilogy.

Pure Dark Vol 1:

I have to frank...this is the first horror novel that has ever seriously made me nauseous. I've had to spend more than a week reading this, as I've needed breaks here and there just to make sure I could keep food in my stomach. This book is super deranged, over sexualized and in laymen's terms...'Gross!'.

That being said...this book is definitely not for the faint of heart. Part of me wanted to give this book a higher tanking..but I don't think I can honestly say I will ever return to re-read this book...most likely ever. Think Stephen King in a game of chicken with Dean Koontz...and Pennywise just jumps right in between then. Only...on hard drugs and with fewer clothes. If you're looking for a way to seriously get your stomach churning...I think you've found it.

Pure Dark Vol 2:

Gross. Just...gross.

Keep in mind that if you're considering purchasing this book, then you might have already made it through the first book in this series (Pure Dark vol. 1). If that is the case...then I think your stomach might be able to stand up to this one without an issue. However, if you just happened across this book while browsing, be prepared to enter a twisted world where absolutely nothing is off the table. You have been warned.

Some of the stories are both horrific and at least a tad amusing, and others are just disturbingly gross from beginning to end. I'll admit this book didn't make me physically sick as much as the first edition, but it's definitely filled with it's fair share of horrific details displayed under a microscope. That being said, it's still a definite must-read if you want to keep tabs on the progress (or hindrance?) of the drug-riddled brain providing this entertainment. I read this after receiving a free ecopy, but the opinions shared here are all my own.

Pure Dark Vol 3:

Ok, I finished this book after reading the first two books in this set (vol 1 & 2), and found this one was much less sickening than the others for the most part. All the same, if you decide to pick up this series and read it for yourself, I still strongly recommend reading the set in order. Disregard the fact you will feel a bit confused and rather nauseated during sections of reading this entire set...just saying.

The first book was just outright nauseating...but still an interesting read, to say the least. The second book in this set is still supremely gross, though I found my stomach could handle reading that one much better. This book shares more snippets into what's really going on (Charlie Ferrari), both internally for the coma patient and externally for those around him. If you have a fairly strong stomach and think you're up for the challenge, I strongly recommend reading this series...it will be an experience like nothing you've delved into before, and by the end it will leave you saying OMCF! (Oh My Charlie Ferrari!)
