Review: Seeker

Seeker Seeker by Amy Reece
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. I won a copy of this book from a book release party on facebook some time back, and just finally found time to get it finished up. It's YA friendly and the character development is developed enough to increase your interest in each character as the story progresses.

Ally has come 'of age' and now has an ability she didn't even realize existed. It leads to a little confusion for her, but with her family around and an instant bond with her classmate, Jack...she learns how to deal.

I can't wait to read the next book in this series, and I look forward to continuing Ally's story in future books in this set.

Review: Transformation

Transformation Transformation by Char Webster
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. It is a classic story of good vs evil...only with a few individuals with abilities tossed in for good measure. This book was a bit of an adventure...the will to survive is strong with the Gifted clan.

I loved this continuation of the series...and I look forward to reading future editions of this series. This book/series is recommended to anyone that enjoys fiction based in a real world setting...but with a twist of magic and fantasy along the way. I was able to get my hands on a copy of this book for free and wanted to share my opinion of it here.

Review: Prowl

Prowl Prowl by Stephanie Nicole Norris
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I enjoyed reading this book. This is the first novel I've read in this series, so I felt there were a few blanks that were left behind when it comes to knowing where these characters are coming from (note..I'd recommend you start with reading the first book in this set), but I enjoyed the story all the same.

These ladies appear to be caught between a rock and a hard place as far as fiances go, and staging a grand international heist seems to be the only foolproof solution to saving their business and home. Brooklyn, Symone, Drew & Leah have to combine their forces and capabilities to pull off the perfect crime, and attempt to remain undetected, in their attempt to save everything.

I would recommend this book/series for fans of crime novels with smart female protagonists with a bit of sharp wit, the ability to manipulate others and a Robin Hood style attempt to steal from the rich and save the family business. It is packed with action, and it's easy to relate these characters throughout the book.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I enjoyed reading this book. It took a little longer than I first expected to get it finished, but I enjoyed the writing. It's easy to find examples you can apply to your own life to make improvements, and I know I will be returning to this book in the future. It's a great investment.

Review: Awakening

Awakening Awakening by Laura Greenwood
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I enjoyed reading this novel. It's basically a dark retelling of a classic fairy tale of sorts...and makes for an interesting read. I think this novel is ideal for readers that enjoy fairy tale retellings, or are fans of paranormal fantasy. I look forward to reading the second book in the Beyond the Curse series.

Review: Second Sight

Second Sight Second Sight by J.A. Culican
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I genuinely loved this book. I think it's a wonderful start to a potentially great new YA series. This novel starts out with a flashback of Mirela's childhood trauma that has driven her to assume a position of complete isolation from others. She believes she is cursed, so she stays distant to protect those around her.

When she meets Luka, everything changes. She discovers the world of Hollows Ground: a world filled with people that all possess their own magical abilities. I found it an enjoyable experience to discover hidden agendas and secret family members along with Ela, and how can you not fall in love with Luka...dimples and all? One of my favorite things about this book, it's written from the perspective of a NA (new adult), but this book contains only light romantic glances...no over-erotic scenes. There. I said it.

That being said...another point I'll add to this review...this story felt a little bit rushed. There is a lot that happens in a very short span of time in this book, and I really feel a bit more could be added to the character development. That being said, this is a wonderful YA novel (no heated scenes at all) that will appeal to the young reader and older reading audience alike. It is high on fantasy, and intersperses elements of real life with the magic that makes up Hollows Ground. I honestly enjoyed reading this book, and can't wait to read Book 2 in this series!

Note to author...how about releasing a novella or two down the line with flashbacks on Ela and/or Lukas past? Just a thought :)

Review: Bernie

Bernie Bernie by Brianna West
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. Bernie is one of the Guardians with a warm southern heart buried beneath his outer shell of a hot bod & tiger-shifter that really enjoys living life and cracking jokes whenever possible. This book opens a window into his soul and grants a glimpse at him falling head over heels for Nyla, though she has already been promised to another.

He's just a cowboy at heart that wears amusing or ironic captioned shirts that demand a second glance from everyone he encounters, and you will find yourself falling for him by the time you finish this novel. I would recommend this book for fans of fantasy or paranormal romance series. And while you're at it, be sure to catch up with the other books in the Promiscus Guardians series by Brianna West.

Review: Crown's Shield: The Aermian Feuds: Book Two

Crown's Shield: The Aermian Feuds: Book Two Crown's Shield: The Aermian Feuds: Book Two by Frost Kay
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I absolutely loved this book! I never thought I'd find another book as enjoyable to read as the first book in this series, but Frost Kay has done it again! Bravo! This book is filled with a fair share of mutual agreements, slight misunderstandings, and a full scatter of humor throughout.

Sage is definitely like my kindred spirit (I hated the idea of wedding planning too...thus we had a quickie ceremony in the court house)...and you will find yourself falling for Tehl over and over again.

Beware...this novel definitely ends on a thrilling cliffhanger...but I honestly cannot wait to see where this story goes with the next book. This series is one you've got to look into. I received an ecopy of this book from the author, but wanted to voluntarily share my honest opinion of it here.

Review: Remedial Rocket Science: A Romantic Comedy

Remedial Rocket Science: A Romantic Comedy Remedial Rocket Science: A Romantic Comedy by Susannah Nix
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. I did receive a free ecopy from the author, but wanted to share my honest opinion about this book here. The humor in this book is light and basically revolves about common nerd girl fandom (Star Wars, Dr. Who, etc), with a few even lighter hints at tech-flavored jokes that are not elaborated on in detail in this novel much.

I found I enjoyed the lighter side of romance hinted at in this book, as I feel too many new-adult style romance books these days tends to fall back repeatedly on erotic scenes when the author feels their story is reaching a dead zone. While I feel the primary protagonist in this novel could use a bit more character development here and there, I found myself mildly connecting with Melody's character all the same. I don't personally feel that just because an individual works in a specific sector of professional detail (such as I.T.), that it becomes the be all end all of their existence.

Not everyone is ACTUALLY formed into a 'Sheldon Cooper' just because they happen to belong to a specific genre of professional expertise. If you're seeking out a light romance that is told from an IT girl's point of view, look no further.

Review: pure dark vol 1

pure dark vol 1 pure dark vol 1 by Andrew Mackay
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I have to frank...this is the first horror novel that has ever seriously made me nauseous. I've had to spend more than a week reading this, as I've needed breaks here and there just to make sure I could keep food in my stomach. This book is super deranged, over sexualized and in laymen's terms...'Gross!'.

That being said...this book is definitely not for the faint of heart. Part of me wanted to give this book a higher tanking..but I don't think I can honestly say I will ever return to re-read this book...most likely ever. Think Stephen King in a game of chicken with Dean Koontz...and Pennywise just jumps right in between then. Only...on hard drugs and with fewer clothes. If you're looking for a way to seriously get your stomach churning...I think you've found it.

Review: Man of the Arr

Man of the Arr Man of the Arr by C.K. Rieke
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Adventure that leads to a man who is a force to be reckoned with...

This entry into the tale of a young man from Arr just adds another invigorating entry into the epic story line of this series. This novella is packed with adventure from the start to the very end...where our story seems to just keep going. I've enjoyed all of the books I've read from Rieke's The Path of Zaan series thus far. If you are a fan of epic adventures, this series is definitely for you!

Review: The Eden Conspiracy

The Eden Conspiracy The Eden Conspiracy by C.A. Gray
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. I loved seeing how the characters in this series have grown and changed from where they started out in first book of this series by now. The writing is excellent, and this book ends in a cruel twist of fate...for at least a few characters. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book in this series.

Mind control is the devil. I would recommend this book for fans of dystopian style writing, and anyone that just happens across this review...if you're interested in starting The Liberty Box...start with book 1 of the series.

I received a copy of this book from the author and wanted to share my honest opinion here.

Review: Black Dawn

Black Dawn Black Dawn by Mallory McCartney
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this novel. It's basically the story of Emory, whose life is changed forever when the handsome pair, Brokk and Memphis, come knocking at her door. Secrets become revealed as the story progresses, and all the action in this book really kept me on the edge of my seat. The writing in this novel is YA appropriate, and I would recommend this book to fans of fantasy, adventure and almost nonstop action.

I received a free copy of this ebook from the author but wanted to voluntarily share my honest opinion about the book here.

Review: Heart Of A Highlander (Lairds of Dunkeld Series)

Heart Of A Highlander (Lairds of Dunkeld Series) Heart Of A Highlander (Lairds of Dunkeld Series) by Emilia Ferguson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Great writing with romantic snippets, family squabbles and a happy ending.

I enjoyed reading this novel. This was actually the first books I've read by Emilia Ferguson, and I felt drawn in once the writing captured me. Think Virgina Woolf meets Jane Austen...a combo that later takes a dangerous wrong turn that leads to a possible near end in the Scottish Highlands. I enjoyed the character development presented in this novel, and I look forward to exploring more writing by this author in the future. I would recommend this book to fans of adventure, with a soldier willing to do what is necessary for the ones that he loves.

Review: From The Falls

From The Falls From The Falls by Heather Renee
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. It continues from not too long after the story told in To The Falls (book 1) left off, and this book is packed with emotion. Just enough romance, humor, surprise, and fast paced action...and even a bit of sorrow.

It's hard to read this series and not empathize with Kali and her social circle the entire way through the adventures and perils they face in this novel. I would recommend this novel to individuals that enjoy adventure with a bit of romance and off kilter chatter between close friends. I received a copy of this ebook for free from the author, but I wanted to share my honest opinion here voluntarily.

Review: The Crooked Knight

The Crooked Knight The Crooked Knight by C.K. Rieke
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed reading this book. Zaan is the protagonist...and when he happens across this mysterious red stone, things start to get real. This book is definitely a full on adventure, complete with dragons and epic battles.

I recommend this book to anyone that enjoys adventure based in a fantasy setting, and I would advise that you start with the first book in this series before delving into this one, though I don't think it's entirely necessary. Review: The Artist: An Explosive, Action-Packed Thrill Ride!

The Artist: An Explosive, Action-Packed Thrill Ride! The Artist: An Explosive, Action-Packed Thrill Ride! by Andrew Mackay
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow...what a packed novel! This is the fourth edition written for the set 'In Their Shoes', where a journalist takes on the task of shadowing a variety of professionals to experience a day in the life with each one so she can include a record of the happenings of the day with each in her collection. This book follows the satirical nature of the collection to a degree, but it is packed with dark adventure, as well.

What a thrilling ride this was...filled with a few lighter, but mostly darker, moments that will make you stop and think. I enjoyed this novel immensely (it's my favorite of this series so far), and I would recommend this read to any that are interested in dark, thrilling, yet satirical rides when they sit to read. I promise this book turned into an absolute roller coaster, with twists, turns, loops and hills...all being ridden at full speed!

I would highly recommend you start with book 1 of this series, just so you have an idea of where Joy Atwood got her start, and so you are already clued into her present situation when you start this book...but if you don't mind a few minor blanks here and there, it can also be read as a standalone. I promise once you finish it, you'll feel compelled to invest in the rest of the books as well. I received a free copy of this ebook from the author but wanted to voluntarily share my honest review here after I finished reading it (and could finally release the grip on my chair).

Review: Loving Kalvin

Loving Kalvin Loving Kalvin by Siobhan Davis
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book and finding out more about the evolution of Lana and Kal's relationship. After suffering a tumultuous stumble after the events that took place in book 3 of this series...it's bound to crumble, right? I'm afraid you must read on to find out.

I loved the heart that went into creating these characters in their unique situations, and seeing how they were overshadowed and thrived through both negative and positive circumstances while trying to maintain the appearance of happy average college students. I personally was able to enjoy this book as it fell into place in the series (starting with Book 1 and on...), but if you decide to pick this book up and read it out of the set, I believe it can be read as a standalone as well.

I'm absolutely addicted to The Kennedy Boys series...and I'm so glad I took a chance on finally picking up and reading the first book in this series. I did receive an ecopy of this novel from the author, but I wanted to share my honest opinion of this book here.
