Review: The Huntress

The Huntress The Huntress by J.A. Culican
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. It combines the presence of a mythological deity and a community of shifters, and I enjoyed the character development used in this book. It is a shorter read than I expected it to be, but still enjoyable from beginning to end. If you are a fan of mythology or shifters (bear shifters, in particular), then you will enjoy this book.

Review: Too Wyrd

Too Wyrd Too Wyrd by Sarah Buhrman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. It focuses on magic, quite a few fantasy tie ins from a few different belief systems, both older and newer, and the mystery behind whether or not the world is truly coming to an end. I hate giving away spoilers, so the rest you have to read this book and find out on your own. I'd recommend this book for fans of fantasy in the real world and mythology.

Review: Appease: Princess and the Pea Retold

Appease: Princess and the Pea Retold Appease: Princess and the Pea Retold by Demelza Carlton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this story. It's another fairy tale retelling by Demelza Carlton, and this time it's a retelling of The Princess and the Pea. I loved how capturing the elements of this adventure were, and I even felt like I truly got to know Reidar and Sativa, both apart and witnessing the love between them when they are together. I'd recommend this book for fans of fairy tale retellings and those that tend to find themselves drawn to books with a medieval setting.

Review: Emerald Bane: Sci-fi Alien novel

Emerald Bane: Sci-fi Alien novel Emerald Bane: Sci-fi Alien novel by Frost Kay
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a great book! It's definitely not a long read, but I loved how colorful the descriptions were in this book. Alien lifeforms like you won't believe, interesting drinks and pirates to boot. This book is filled with surprises.

For those of you looking to read the first book in this series, check out the Through the Never anthology to read Amber Vial. I'd recommend this read for people that enjoy sci-fi and are looking for short reads/novella style literature.

Review: Nature of the Beast

Nature of the Beast Nature of the Beast by Monique Singleton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow! I really enjoyed reading this book. This is actually the first book I've read by this author, and even though it is the second book in the series, I was able to keep up with what was happening rather easily. Full of action and danger...this book is just what I needed to escape my regular reads. A woman shows up in a town packed with evil types...and leaves no name so she can avoid leaving a trail.

With this story you get exposed to the way the darker side maintains an element of control in town, and you get to see just what 'Jess' is ready to do about it. The intimacy is without romance, which was a bit of a welcome change from my usual reads, and Jess is an absolute bad@$$ throughout this book. I would definitely recommend this read to anyone that is looking for a supernatural themed book with an edge.

Review: Magic-Born Dragon

Magic-Born Dragon Magic-Born Dragon by K.N. Lee
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really loved reading this book. I was already finding myself comfortable with the characters after reading the first book in this series, but Rowan is still doing her best to hide out after being falsely accused of killing the man that she loved (that also happened to be a prince). I found this edition a gripping read that left me wanting more.

Adventure finds her around every turn in this book, and the ending definitely leaves you wanting to reach for book 3. (Luckily, I'm reading this as part of a 3-book set...so no waiting for me!) I'd recommend this book primarily to people that have already consumed book 1, and love reading stories about dragons and the supernatural.

Review: Dawning Ascent

Dawning Ascent Dawning Ascent by Jen L. Grey
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. You get introduced to Ariah, as well as a full cast of characters that are well developed all have their parts to play along the way. Relationships reign in this book, both those that have been present from the time of characters' youth, those that are adopted between these individuals later in life, and finally those that are strictly being enforced by others.

Expect regular exposure to powerful magical elements, as the protagonist here is working to learn to control her powers from early on. If you are a fan of YA fantasy with a harsh medieval flair, you should definitely invest in this book. I am definitely looking forward to reading the second book in this series.

Review: Starbound

Starbound Starbound by J.L. Weil
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. I actually read it as the first entry in the Shattered Worlds box set, and I feel in love with Weil's writing with this story. It's the same story told from two different point of views, and I think it's masterfully done.

Katia and Seth are so easy to fall in love with in this book, and you learn they are genuinely interlocked in a real love/hate type situation. I'd recommend this book for fans of the fantasy and supernatural genres with a slight romantic edge. It's also ideal for YA readers, as well.

Review: Slumber

Slumber Slumber by J.L. Weil
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved reading this book. The world created by J.L. Weil just blew me away...a dystopian era where evil personalities were working in an attempt to gain supreme power. I won't go into detail on that account though...just know a spoiler is on the tip of my tongue here.

After waking from an epic sleep, Charlotte discovers she now possesses powers, as does Dash, the hottie that came to her rescue...time and time again. If you are a fan of dystopian YA style fantasy novels, you don't want to let this one pass you by. I can't wait to dig into book 2 of the 'Beauty Never Dies Chronicles'.

Review: Saving Angel

Saving Angel Saving Angel by J.L. Weil
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. Granted, I started reading it many months ago...then forgot about it and the book just sat on the wayside on my kindle fire while I read though hundreds of books by other authors. I realized I hadn't finished it yet, so I picked it up again and set to work.

I love the language used in this book, and can definitely relate. Angel is a gamer, and I can definitely relate to that aspect of this story. There are so many other things going on here, it's definitely worth checking out to discover more about this series.

I'm definitely looking forward to reading the next book in this series. High school is always a source of turmoil, but in the case of the Divisa series, you don't even know the half of it. If you are a fan of YA fantasy literature, this book is right up your alley.

Review: Convenience

Convenience Convenience by Andrew Mackay
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

From a daily job...to gross...to grosser, and on to demented. This story focuses on the daily struggles of a mall janitor. It's a bit unsettling, and not run of the mill literature, to say the least. You'll never think of public restrooms the same again.

Review: Invisible

Invisible Invisible by Sariah Skye
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really loved this book. A girl meets four hot supernatural guys and finds herself drawn to all of them? Between the shared romantic interludes here and there, and the fact Ava finds out her Mom is up to no good and her Dad has really been with her this entire time...there is a lot to unravel with the reading of this book. If you are a fan of fantasy, supernatural, incubi and sexual healing (or at least romantic healing ;))...pick up this book and get started on this new adventure.

Review: Bear Moon

Bear Moon Bear Moon by Hattie Hunt
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Enjoyable shifter story

I enjoyed reading this book. It's ideal for mature readers (around age 17+) due to a few incidents of a slightly graphic nature that deal with intimacy. I wasn't aware this book is based off a separate series, but I was able to enjoy it as a standalone without feeling lost. I'd recommend this book for fans of shifters and paranormal romance.

Review: Love/Hate

Love/Hate Love/Hate by L.C. Mawson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. I am giving it 4.5 stars here, and the half star is only because from the start this story seems to make sense, then gets a little confusing when the Aspects first make an appearance. However, things all fall into place as the story progresses, and I found this an enjoyable book to read. If you are a fan of YA based space/sci-fi tales, you will definitely find this book appealing.

Review: The Council

The Council The Council by Kayla Krantz
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Great read

I was hooked on this story at the very start. This book is a coming-of-age story about a young witch and the challenges she faces when dealing with multiple covens, fae and other magical influences that surround her. It is an adventure with loads of mystery, and each page will keep you craving more. I highly recommend this book for fans of witches, mystery, and books about self-discovery.

Review: The Cursed Highlander (Lairds of Dunkeld Series)

The Cursed Highlander (Lairds of Dunkeld Series) The Cursed Highlander (Lairds of Dunkeld Series) by Emilia Ferguson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I enjoyed reading this historical romance. This time the possibility of a haunting takes place, with danger and mystery around every corner, and the desire to pursue forbidden love weighing on the balances in between. Dougal and Joanna admire each other in time, and adventure awaits them both in this book. If you are a fan of historical romance novels, I recommend you check out this series. There are several books in this set, but I believe each one could be read separately as a standalone without leaving the reader missing any major points along the way.

Review: Wilder

Wilder Wilder by G.K. DeRosa
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. For fans of the fantasy genre, you may already be a bit familiar with the premise behind many of the characters' relationship paradigms, but I was glad to see the author was still able to put a new twist to the situations as the book progresses. If you are a fan of fantasy books, enjoy reading about vampires, and are curious to learn about 'the Guardians' as a new supernatural race of sorts, I'd highly recommend checking out this book.

Review: Life In Death-A Reaper Society Novella

Life In Death-A Reaper Society Novella Life In Death-A Reaper Society Novella by Francesca Vance
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book, and I give it 4.5 stars. Francesca Vance breathes new life into the concept of reapers, and I'm definitely looking forward to checking out future books by this author.
This is a short read, and it is the first books I've read by this author so far.

I would recommend readers interested in the fantasy and supernatural genres check this series out. The characters are fairly well developed and the plot line was well though out and easy enough to grab onto (I was able to pick up on what was going on, even though I started with the third set in the series).

Alexander: Memoirs Alexander: Memoirs by May Freighter
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. If you've already read the other books in the Helena Hawthorn series, then adding this book to the collection just adds more depth to the storyline in general. If this is your first experience reading any books in this series, that's ok too.

You will fall in love with Alexander, and your heart will go out to him over and over again in this book. I'd recommend this read for those that are fans of vampire stories and the paranormal, with a bit of romance and suspense tossed in here and there.

Review: Brothers of Fang: The Heart of the Pack

Brothers of Fang: The Heart of the Pack Brothers of Fang: The Heart of the Pack by Iris Sweetwater
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. The pack of werewolves are answering to Isaiah early on in the novel, and when a witch wonders in the area after suffering an attack, the two races have to try to work toward discovering a happy medium among them.

There are plenty of ups and downs throughout this book, and everything seems to get tied up as the book comes to an end - at least until the last book in this series is released. If you are a fan of werewolves, witches, or paranormal literature, you definitely should give this series a try...though I'd recommend you start with book 1 of the set.

Review: Shadow Fall

Shadow Fall Shadow Fall by Audrey Grey
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. It involves a great set of characters and jumps right into the action from the start. I found myself reminded of the hunger games series for parts of this book, but those similarities seemed to fall away a bit the farther into this novel I got. I recommend this book for fans of dystopian books, and readers that are looking for a book that will keep them on the edge of their seat.
