Empires of Shadow and Ash: A Limited Edition Collection of Dystopian Urban Fantasy Novels by Heather Marie Adkins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I am writing this review based on the story Witch of the Midnight Blade by Kristen Austen Radcliffe. I really enjoyed reading the book, and felt it was very realistic in many ways at the start. Philadelphia works with the elderly in a retirement community. Everything appears very normal...until the introduction of abilities makes an appearance. This story seems to range from casual to arms in the air insane by the end of it all. I would recommend the book to fans of urban fantasy.
I was blown away this set also contains two books by one of my favorite authors, J.A. Culican. The first story is a novella where Culican paired up with Melle Amade and produced a wonderful story about a girl that is engineered and raised alongside a group of guys, where they are treated as slaves and forced to mine underground areas daily. You get to experience everything from interactions with trolls and dwarfs, and even discover the existence of dragons by the end of it all. Get ready for a wild set of experiences with Elemental Origin.
Another story by J.A. Culican that is included in this set is called Sword of Fire. This is a fae story that involves magic, fantasy and dragons. Prepare to meet Jaekob, and continue the story to find out what happens next!
